This four lane 5 pin bowling alley was originally built by the Oakford family and opened in 1954 with the rec center side hosting 5 pool tables. After a long and extensive revitalization, the original wood lanes were opened in January 2023 with a newly installed scoring system to enhance your playing experience. The rec center now is home to 2 pool tables, pinball machines, and various new and retro arcade games.
Bowling has been played for over 5,000 years, with the earliest bowling artifacts originating in Ancient Egypt.
Thomas Ryan, the inventor of 5 Pin bowling, had originally opened the first Tenpin bowling centre in Toronto. It was a private member club, the bowling centre catered to a white-collar crowd, and many customers would bowl a game on their lunch break. They were unsatisfied with the speed of Tenpin bowling and the weight of the ball.
In response, Mr. Ryan had his father whittled down some pins, introduced a hand-sized ball, created a scoring system, and 5 Pin bowling in its original form was born. The year was 1909. 5 Pin bowling grew rapidly from the start, with the first league being formed in 1910. Today, 5 Pin bowling continues to be a favourite activity of people of all ages and abilities across the country.
5 Pin bowling is only played in Canada
